Sensitivity enhancement of grating interferometer based two-dimensional sensor arrays using two-wavelength readout.

Diffraction gratings integrated with microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) sensors offer displacement measurements with subnanometer sensitivity. However, the sensitivity of the interferometric readout may drop significantly based on the gap between the grating and the reference surface. A two-wavelength (2-λ) readout method was previously tested using a single MEMS sensor for illustrating incr...

Solving a class of nonlinear two-dimensional Volterra integral equations by using two-dimensional triangular orthogonal functions

In this paper, the two-dimensional triangular orthogonal functions (2D-TFs) are applied for solving a class of nonlinear two-dimensional Volterra integral equations. 2D-TFs method transforms these integral equations into a system of linear algebraic equations. The high accuracy of this method is verified through a numerical example and comparison of the results with the other numerical methods.

Bacteria pattern spontaneously on periodic nanostructure arrays.

Surface-associated bacteria typically form self-organizing communities called biofilms. Spatial segregation is important for various bacterial processes associated with cellular and community development. Here, we demonstrate bacterial ordering and oriented attachment on the single-cell level induced by nanometer-scale periodic surface features. These surfaces cause spontaneous and distinct pat...

Profiles of covering arrays of strength two

Covering arrays of strength two have been widely studied as combinatorial models of software interaction test suites for pairwise testing. While numerous algorithmic techniques have been developed for the generation of covering arrays with few columns (factors), the construction of covering arrays with many factors and few tests by these techniques is problematic. Random generation techniques c...
